JPG, PNG, or WebP?

JPG is the universal photo format — small and accepted everywhere. PNG is lossless and handles transparency, ideal for graphics and screenshots. WebP is the modern web standard: typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality.

  • JPG — photos, universal compatibility
  • PNG — transparency, lossless, sharp edges
  • WebP — smallest files for websites

Which formats can I convert from?

This tool reads JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and AVIF files. Static GIF frames convert cleanly; for animated GIFs, try the Video to GIF tool for video sources.

Frequently asked questions

Which image format should I convert to?

JPG for photos you want to share — smallest and most compatible. PNG when you need transparency or pixel-perfect graphics. WebP for images on websites, where it cuts file sizes dramatically.

Does converting images reduce quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless — zero quality change. Converting to JPG or WebP re-encodes the image; at the default 92% quality the difference is invisible. Raise the slider to 100% for maximum fidelity.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Your browser does all the work locally. Images are read from your disk, re-encoded in memory, and offered back as downloads. Nothing is transmitted.

Can I resize images at the same time?

Yes. Under Advanced settings, set a maximum width in pixels. Images wider than that are scaled down with high-quality smoothing; smaller images are untouched.

Can I convert animated GIFs?

Animated GIFs convert to a single still frame of their first frame. For creating GIFs, use our Video to GIF tool instead.
