What is HEIC?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple’s modern photo format. It stores higher-quality images at roughly half the size of JPG, which is why iPhones default to it.
- Default format on iPhone and iPad since iOS 11
- About half the file size of comparable JPGs
- Limited support outside Apple devices and newer Windows
What is a JPG?
JPG is the world’s most compatible image format. Every device, browser, app, and photo service opens it — which makes it the safest choice for sharing photos.
- Opens everywhere, no conversion needed
- Small files that send quickly
- Supported by every printing service
Frequently asked questions
Why do iPhone photos come as HEIC?
HEIC stores photos at about half the size of JPG with the same visual quality, saving significant storage. The trade-off is compatibility — which this tool solves in one click.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
Never. The HEIC decoder runs inside your browser. Your photos are read from your device, converted locally, and saved straight back to your device.
JPG or PNG for my photos?
JPG for almost everything — it is far smaller and every app opens it. Pick PNG only when you need lossless quality or transparency.
Will conversion reduce my photo quality?
At the default 92% quality the difference is visually undetectable. Move the quality slider up to 100% if you want maximum fidelity.
Can I convert HEIC on Windows or Android?
Yes — that is exactly what this tool is for. It runs in the browser, so any platform works, no app required.
